Resurgent Russia draws a new map
Russia's announcement to formally recognize the independence of Georgia's breakaway provinces has all the bearings of a classic Cold War chess move. It now remains to be seen how the US and the West will counter this latest development and what bearing that is likely to have on Turkey and its recent attempts to play arbiter in the region of the Caucasus.
